The essay examines the biographies of Benedetto Croce published by Emanuele Cutinelli-Rendina (2022) and Paolo D’Angelo (2023), elucidating differences in critical perspective and referring to the latest interpretative issues in Croce’s historiography. In particular, it highlights Cutinelli-Rendina’s greater attention to the relationship between Croce’s civic engagement and his historiographical work, while D’Angelo’s emphasises the philosophical problems linked to the elaboration of the Aesthetics and the editorial choices that allowed Croce’s thought to spread throughout Italy.
