Guido Calogero e l’«altro volto» di Socrate. Il Cinismo Antico

Aim of my paper is to analyze, for the first time and in detail, the interpretation that Guido Calogero, a renowned Italian philosopher of the 20th century and a profound interpreter of ancient thought, provided for Cynicism. First, my aim is to examine the general features of Calogero’s intriguing presentation of Cynicism. Then, I will investigate why Calogero considers Cynicism fundamentally a Socratism. Finally, I aim to problematically discuss how, even if Cynicism distances itself from the Socratic dialogue, it remains a highly interesting philosophy for Calogero. More particularly, following principles of Calogero’ philosophy, it presents important theoretical reasons of interest and fascination.
