Recent investigations have started to challenge the Germano-centric approach to the study of the Wissenschaft des Judentums (Science of Judaism), one of the two main Jewish intellectual movements in the 19th century, together with the Haskalah (Jewish Illuminism). Part of this new approach aims at exploring commonalities between the two movements. This paper argues that an ideal subject to test this view is the Italian Jewish intellectual Isacco Samuele Reggio (1784-1855), who seems to test the boundaries of both movements.
