In this paper, I flesh out Giuseppe Barzaghi’s two interpretations of Aquinas’ doctrine of creation. Up until the mid-Nineties, Barzaghi accepted Aquinas’ claim that the Creator cannot be identied with the world He created. Later on, Barzaghi developed a different understanding of the relation between the Creator and His creatures. By focusing on Barzaghi’s two understandings of the doc- trine of creation, I outline the internal development of his thought. In Barzaghi’s last contributions, there are still several references to Thomas Aquinas, but the «anagogical Thomism» is presented as an Aufhebung of the doctrines historically held by Aquinas.
